Flashbacks Pt. 2
So the day I got the scanner up & running, I also did the same for the camera. I had tons (I mean TONS) of pictures on my camera. Need a number you say. I'll just say, over 600. :) I had pictures from around the yard, my trip east, more things around the yard (such as the visiting hawk), etc. So here are some from the "Flashbacks" Post that I said I'd get to when I could. (And now I can, so long as the power doesn't continue to go out...)

I got word last night that my grandmother is finally back to her regular room. After her hospital stay, she was in the Skilled Care section until she was back on her feet again, so to speak. Excellent birthday gift to herself I think (it is this Saturday)!

Come on people!
No comments about the Peeps?!?! You disappoint me... I surely thought I'd get something. Particularly the 'Peeping Peeps'. They are by far my favorite. Oh well.
I didn't get to mention it before, but I've gone out of town for a mini-vacation. Started my drive late Monday morning to meet with KC & the (sunshine) Gang for lunch. Then continued on my journey to Cleveland. I was ready to get out of the car by the time I got here! We ate at a Fatburger - never heard of it before, but I recommend the strawberry shakes if you happen across one. I wanted to send a picture of the meal to Keith (via my mom's new phone) & ask him what he ordered for dinner, but we thought of it after we already ate. I think we were hungry!
Today it poured more than I've seen it pour before. But maybe my perspective is jaded by the consequences of the rain in this area... We were headed to breakfast (IHOP if you're wondering) & the lightening was brighter & more frequent than I've ever seen. Immediately before our destination there was a possibly abandoned vehicle in the middle of a street to our right, just beyond the intersection. (I say 'possibly' abandoned because I didn't see a person in it & the lights weren't on.) When we got out of the car, even with umbrellas, I got pretty wet from the crazy angles it was blowing (and that's even from the 1st space beyond the handicap one!). The power went out a few times before we placed our order -- we did get our food fairly promptly still (in case you were worried we were starving while waiting!). On our way to the Botanical Garden & an Ansel Adams' exhibit we ended up stuck in traffic. But not stuck like another vehicle -- they were stuck in the overflowing water! Too bad it was slightly sideways in traffic (just beyond a turn at an intersection again). A guy finally got out of the backseat to run to a business across the street -- the water was up past his ankles!! I was a little worried sitting so close to it as vehicles of all shapes and size were trying to quickly squeeze between us. As trucks to our right drove by it looked like you were at the beach with the "waves" crashing above the sidewalks! We made it through, eventually. I could feel the water hitting under the car beneath my feet as we went through the deeper spots. And of course getting drenched (the car this time, not us) by the waves when trucks would pass us on the right. Then we really got stuck in traffic. Six lanes (I believe) that were to merge together, were pretty much at a standstill. I still don't know how long it took us to get through -- an overall 20 minute trip that lasted over an hour. A game of Sudoku from the newspaper helped time pass a little quicker. Still glad I used the facilities before we left IHOP though!!!
The rain did die down enough for us to truly enjoy the Gardens -- we started inside while it was coming done, then made our way outside. At times we still made use of the umbrellas they provided (glad for that!), but for the most part it was a dry walk. As Michael commented, it was way better than we expected. Another recommendation from me, if you're ever in the area.
The Ansel Adams exhibit was also nice. Free, didn't take too long (by then we were getting tired), & a short walking distance from the Gardens. Particularly good if you enjoy his photographs, which I do.

Peeps Diorama Contest
Scanner is finally up & running...

This is only the main star of "Peeps are a Girl's Best Friend" -- I did try to scan the image of the entire diorama, however it wouldn't upload (perhaps too large - it was 9.39 MB while this one was only 323 KB in size). Quite detailed, and obviously impressed the judges, as it was the winner.

Weather
Everybody talks about the weather don't they.
It's pretty important. But also useful during awkward moments of silence.
Right now however, it's a moment of rambling &/or possible ranting.
I woke up this morning & checked the local news for the upcoming forecast.
"Oppressively Humid" was the headline.
Doesn't that just stink. (Makes you look forward to going outside, doesn't it!)
After being out in it this morning, I agree, it was quite oppressive.
Makes me appreciate air conditioning.
Which only makes Keith happy. I'm usually the one turning it off (or at least on "energy save") & he's the one cranking it.
Yesterday's weather was interesting.
During my drive home I both entered & exited a heavy storm -- nearly no visibility at times.
Fortunately I made it home before the storm & was able to get the mail while it was still dry!
After that, it was heavy downpours & hail.
The hail was short lived, but noisy.
The power even went out twice.
Too bad the one time it abruptly ended my phone call (sorry KC!).
It did manage to cool things off, so that was nice.
But then we get the "oppressive humidity," so it clearly didn't take care of business.
In my book anyway!

Flashbacks
Something to catch you up to speed during my "absence."
Beginning of July:
Two too many funeral services. (Actually 3, but I didn't attend the 1st, didn't find out about it until after "my" 1st.) Each a week apart. It has been an emotional rollercoaster around here -- for us, for friends & family. My thoughts go out to all the loved ones involved.
July 12th:
Had a day & a 1/2 off of work, so I made an impromptu trip East to visit family. It was wonderful seeing gas prices so cheap -- I left town at $2.95 & arrived there finding it at $2.73! Did some walking & shopping with my grandmother at VF. Visited with my dad & aunt. Discovered my other grandmother was in the hospital (5 minutes before visiting hours ended!) -- so I made up for that the next day & visited twice, while there I saw my other aunt & great aunt. Visited with my cousin & her family at their new house.
*Pictures will be shown later (that part of the computer is still not functioning)....
My aunt showed me a funny article dedicated to 'Peeps' (it was from April, hence the subject matter). The contest was to create a diorama made of Peeps. I was supposed to mail it to my mom, but I wanted to scan some pictures to share -- it's that funny. Unfortunately, the scanner runs on the USB port. I'm trying to search online for it, but as I mentioned, it's from April, so it's not going well. All I can come up with is a partial article preview -- no pictures. So you'll just have to wait for the computer problem to be solved.
In case you are wondering &/or possibly worried... My grandmother has ongoing health issues -- some days are better for her than others. What pushed her limits was falling & fracturing a rib several weeks ago. She was having trouble breathing & in pain, thus comes the hospital stay. Breathing treatments & oxygen, as well as being made to EAT (from much insistence from my aunt), helped her. She's out of the hospital now, but not back 'home' yet (she's in the skilled care area at the moment) -- still on oxygen (which doesn't make her happy) & still needs reminded to eat. She's just not hungry. I'd give her some of my appetite if I could. Hopefully she'll get back to her own room soon.

Somewhere during that time:
The computer started having issues, little by little losing functioning. (I wanted to say "functionability" but that just doesn't sound like a real word!) Then I couldn't do much of anything & gave up on it. Finally checked e-mail next door (time of previous post)... now I've got the internet back, but still no USBs or any other ports like that. Hence no pictures (they're still in the camera) til the motherboard gets replaced. Hopefully that will solve all the problems -- thanks for all your help George!
Last week:
When I get up in the morning, particularly on the weekends, I look out the kitchen door to see what critters are scurrying about. And whether or not they need to be run off for eating my flowers. During the week I'd see chippies, rabbits, even a deer. I keep my eye on them, cause they are notorious for eating things that don't belong to them! Saturday I had a most pleasant surprise -- at first all I could see was this blob in the yard, but once my eyes focused I realized it was one of the resident hawks! It was having dinner (breakfast rather), but not destroying any of my plants, so I was okay with that. Bird of some sort was on the menu that day. I have pictures, even a video, but that will have to come later.

We made plans to go see Pirates 3 for lunch at the plaza -- yummy food there! But before we could leave I got a phone call from my dear friend KC. They were coming for a visit!!! So not only did I have a great movie & meal, but I had a wonderful visit & more good food. Thanks for making the drive KC & the gang, hope you can do it again soon!

Still kicking
Yes, I am alive & well. My computer on the other hand is, well, not. One could call it a brainfart (computer version). It is still in one piece (although I've felt like tossing it a few times now) it's just not being very cooperative. George has been checking it for me this past week, trying his best, but it looks like it needs some major assistance -- at this point it's being wiped out. So thankful to have a handy tech guy next door!
So, in the meantime play some Sudoku (somewhere on the right side of the page), & keep checking back in on me. I will return. Hopefully sooner than later. Enjoy your weekend!

help please
Ok people, I need some assistance...
I would like to get a bat house, but don't quite know what I'm getting into. I asked for one for my birthday, but the one person who looked, couldn't find one. (Thanks for trying Annette!) I've been looking online & feel overwhelmed by the whole thing. There are some many different ones out there. Which is where I need some help. What should I be looking for? Is there a certain size I need? Specific details that are a must (or are they just sounding "fancy" to justify the cost).
I've read some comments people have left saying that bats never used it. But is it the house, or the location the person put it in? (I've been researching that stuff too, but if you have any insight, please share it.)
I don't want to spend an arm & a leg, but I want one that gets used!
