help please

Ok people, I need some assistance...

I would like to get a bat house, but don't quite know what I'm getting into. I asked for one for my birthday, but the one person who looked, couldn't find one. (Thanks for trying Annette!) I've been looking online & feel overwhelmed by the whole thing. There are some many different ones out there. Which is where I need some help. What should I be looking for? Is there a certain size I need? Specific details that are a must (or are they just sounding "fancy" to justify the cost).

I've read some comments people have left saying that bats never used it. But is it the house, or the location the person put it in? (I've been researching that stuff too, but if you have any insight, please share it.)

I don't want to spend an arm & a leg, but I want one that gets used!

We just put one up. Got ours at Sutherlands (mini Home Depot). In the process of figuring out where to hang it, I learned a couple things:
- It's hard to get bats to use them, and it may take several years. 40% of bat houses sit empty in a given year.

- Your best bet is to have several, so that if one gets too hot in mid-summer (for example), they can switch to a different one.

Other than that, I can't tell you a whole lot that you probably haven't already read. I wouldn't think the type of bat box would make as much difference as good placement, but that's just a guess.

Good luck! Let us know if you get bats!
